The DRIFTR Roof Rack from Backwoods Adventure Mods fits 2005–2023 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab trucks, covering both the 2nd and 3rd gen. It gives the cab a low, modular deck for cargo boxes, recovery gear, lighting or a rooftop tent, and adds no height above the factory antenna.

The rack is 1/4 in aluminum with black powder coat and weighs only 46 lb. It ships with five triple-slotted 1×3 crossbars (one braces the adjustable front fairing) and roll-in T-nuts for mounting gear. Pre-drilled side rails let you put crossbars wherever your load needs them, the fairings carry slotted 1/4 and 3/8 in light cutouts, and the rear fairing has knock-out pockets for chase lights. It's rated for 700 lb static and 300 lb dynamic.

Installation is bolt-on with no drilling, and 3M tape and sealant are in the kit. Extra crossbars are sold in pairs, and accessories in the photos are sold separately. Backwoods covers the structure with a lifetime warranty, and we ship it free within the contiguous U.S.

Questions we get

Do I have to drill my roof?Not on the 4Runner, Tacoma, Land Cruiser 250 or GX550. Those mount with factory points, rubber blocks and brackets on the weatherstripping. The 2022+ Tundra rack mounts with rivets, and BAM includes the drill bit, stop collar, rivets and rivet tool.

Will it work with my sunroof?Yes. BAM lists the 4Runner, Land Cruiser 250 and GX550 racks as compatible with the factory sunroof.

What's the difference between static and dynamic weight?Static is the load parked (700 lb, enough for a tent and 2–3 people). Dynamic is what you can carry while driving (300 lb). Both are well above Toyota's factory roof rating.

Can I mount lights?Yes. The fairings have slotted 1/4 and 3/8 in cutouts for light bars and pods, and the rear fairing has knock-out pockets sized for Baja Designs S1 and S2 lights.

Are the accessories in the photos included?No. Deck panels, awning brackets, traction board mounts, grab handles, lights and extra crossbars are sold separately.

How long does install take?It's a bolt-on job for most vehicles, and BAM has an install video for each one. The Tundra takes longer because of the rivets.
